Why most Google Ads accounts leak money
We have torn down more than a hundred Malaysian accounts. The same five leaks appear in nearly all of them.
Broad keywords burn budget on people who will never buy. We build around the long-tail terms that signal a buyer, and we add negative keywords every week.
Conversions go untracked, so the algorithm optimises blind. We fix measurement first, including calls and WhatsApp clicks.
The agency reports clicks while your boss asks about sales. Our reports answer the boss.
Landing pages do not match the ad, so the click bounces. We write or fix the page before the campaign goes live.
Set-and-forget management lets waste pile up. We sweep bids, search terms and placements every week.
How we run your Google Ads account
Tracking comes first. We set up GA4, conversion import, and call and WhatsApp tracking before a single ringgit is spent.
We build the keyword list around long-tail, high-intent terms and keep the broad ones on a tight leash.
Campaign structure stays tight, with small ad groups, ads that match the search, and landing pages that match the ad.
Weekly sweeps cover bids, negative keywords, search-term mining and budget pacing.
Every month we review cost per lead and ROAS together on a call, and we adjust the plan in writing.
Andy runs your account personally, with no handoff. Management is quoted separately from your ad budget and scoped to the number of campaigns, markets and landing pages we run. We also set a practical minimum in ad spend, because accounts below it learn too slowly to optimise. The pricing page explains how a Google Ads management quote is built.
The Google Ads campaign types we run, and when each one earns its place
| Search campaigns | The core for almost every SME. They catch people typing exactly what you sell, and they produce the cheapest qualified leads in most Malaysian accounts. |
|---|---|
| Performance Max | Useful once search has produced enough conversion data to learn from. Dangerous as a starting point, because it spends wherever it likes. |
| Remarketing | Brings back the visitors who did not enquire the first time. Cheap, and it lifts the conversion rate of everything else. |
| Shopping campaigns | For online stores with a clean product feed. We run them beside Meta catalogue ads so each channel learns from the other. |
| YouTube | Awareness for brands with a story to tell and a budget to tell it. We recommend it only after search and remarketing are profitable. |
How much does Google Ads management cost in Malaysia?
Google Ads has two costs. The ad spend goes to Google and is paid per click, from about RM1 for low-competition searches to RM30 and above in finance, legal and medical categories. The management fee goes to the agency. Malaysian agencies charge it in one of three ways, and the model matters as much as the number.
| Fee model | Typical range in Malaysia | Works best when | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat monthly fee | RM1,500 to RM8,000 a month | Spend is steady and the account needs regular hands-on work | Fees that stay flat while the work shrinks |
| Percentage of ad spend | 10 to 20% of spend | Spend is large and scales up and down | An incentive to raise your budget |
| Hybrid | A lower flat fee plus 5 to 10% of spend | Growing accounts | Complexity in the invoice |
Market ranges observed in late 2026. Ad spend is paid to Google on top.
ArkPerform quotes the management fee by platforms, campaigns and ads per month after the free teardown, and the ad account and all its data stay in your name. Starting prices are published on the Pricing page.
What the first 90 days of Google Ads look like
Tracking is installed and tested, the account is rebuilt around the searches that produce enquiries, and the first leads arrive, usually within the first two weeks. Cost per lead is high at this stage because the account is learning.
Search terms are pruned weekly, negatives added, ads rewritten against the data, and bids shift toward the keywords that convert. Cost per lead typically falls by a third.
The account settles, Performance Max or remarketing is added where it earns its place, and the monthly review moves from clicks to revenue per campaign.
How much do Google Ads cost in Malaysia?
You pay Google per click, anywhere from RM1 to RM30 and above depending on industry, plus a management fee if an agency runs the account. A realistic SME starting point is RM3,000 a month in ad spend. Competitive niches such as marketing, legal and finance cost more per click, while most B2B and service niches sit at the lower end.
What budget do we need to start?
Enough to buy meaningful data, which usually means RM3,000 a month minimum in spend. Below that level campaigns learn too slowly to optimise, and you end up judging ads on luck.
How fast do leads come?
The first qualified leads usually arrive within 1 to 2 weeks of launch. Cost per lead then falls over the following two to three months as the account learns and the search-term list tightens.
Who owns the ad account?
You do. The account, the data and the history stay in your name, and you keep everything if we part ways. Be wary of any agency that insists otherwise.
Is SEM the same as Google Ads?
In Malaysia the terms are used interchangeably. SEM, search engine marketing, technically covers all paid search, and Google Ads is the platform almost every SEM agency in Malaysia actually runs. If a proposal says SEM, PPC or Google AdWords, it means the same service as this page.
Should we run Google Ads or Meta ads?
Google Ads catches people who are already searching for what you sell, so it suits services, B2B and anything with a clear search demand. Meta ads create demand among people who were not searching, so they suit beauty, retail and offers that sell on a picture. Most Malaysian SMEs with RM4,000 or more a month should run both and let the numbers decide the split.
Should we run Search campaigns or Performance Max?
Start with Search. It targets the exact words people type and gives you clean data on what converts. Performance Max can add volume once the account has 30 or more conversions a month to learn from, and it needs tight exclusions or it will spend on brand searches and low-value placements. We add it in month two or three, never on day one.
Do we need a website and conversion tracking before we start?
Yes to both. Without conversion tracking, Google optimises for clicks and you pay for the wrong ones. Without a page that loads fast and asks for the enquiry, the clicks you buy leak away. If either is missing, we fix it in the first two weeks before spending your budget.
Does Google Ads work for B2B companies?
It works well when the search exists. Industrial buyers, engineers and procurement teams search for specific products and specifications, and those searches are cheap because few competitors bid on them. The campaign succeeds or fails on the landing page and the follow-up, which is why we build both.
