The short answer
SEO pricing in Malaysia falls into four broad tiers. The numbers below are typical monthly ranges observed across Malaysian agencies and freelancers in late 2026.
| Tier | Typical monthly cost | What it usually covers |
|---|---|---|
| Budget packages | RM300 to RM800 | Directory listings, a few machine-written posts, a PDF report |
| SME retainer | RM2,000 to RM5,000 | Technical fixes, 2 to 4 pages a month, local SEO, reporting |
| Competitive SME | RM5,000 to RM8,000 | More content, link and mention building, conversion work |
| Enterprise | RM10,000 and above | Large sites, several markets, dedicated team |
One-off audits sit outside these tiers and usually cost RM1,500 to RM5,000, depending on the size of the site.
What you are paying for
An SEO fee pays for four kinds of work. Technical SEO keeps the site fast, crawlable and indexed. Content creates pages that answer what buyers search. Local SEO keeps your Google Business Profile and business details consistent. Authority work earns mentions and links from sites that Google already trusts.
Each of these takes skilled hours. A competent writer needs four to eight hours for one good commercial page, including research and revisions. A technical audit of a 200-page site takes days, not minutes. When a quote looks too cheap, ask which of the four kinds of work it skips.
Why RM500 SEO fails
RM500 a month buys roughly two to four hours of skilled work in Malaysia. Nobody can research, write, fix and build authority in that time, so cheap packages fill the gap with automation. You get directory submissions, thin articles written by software, and a monthly PDF full of graphs that never mention enquiries.
Rankings rarely move, and spammy links sometimes cause harm that costs money to undo. If your budget is RM500, spend it on a properly tuned Google Business Profile and a review routine. That will do more good than any cheap package.
Cost by business type
- A local service business usually needs RM2,000 to RM3,500 a month, focused on local SEO, reviews and a handful of strong service pages.
- An e-commerce store usually needs RM3,500 to RM8,000 a month, because category pages, product data and technical health multiply with the catalogue.
- A B2B industrial company usually needs RM3,000 to RM6,000 a month. Search volume is small, but each lead is worth thousands, so spec-level content earns its keep.
Agency, freelancer or in-house
| Option | Typical cost | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freelancer | RM1,500 to RM4,000 a month | Small, well-defined jobs | One person covering every skill |
| Agency | RM2,000 to RM8,000+ a month | Ongoing content, technical and authority work | Junior staff doing senior work |
| In-house hire | RM5,000 to RM9,000 a month salary plus tools | Large sites publishing weekly | Tools and training sit on top of salary |
Questions to ask before signing
- Which keywords will you target first, and why those?
- How many pages will you write or improve each month?
- Who writes the content, and who checks it against our industry?
- What will the monthly report show besides positions?
- Who owns the content, the accounts and the data if we stop?
- What happens in month three if nothing has moved?
A good provider answers each one without hesitation. A provider who answers with a guarantee of position one has told you everything you need to know.

Our own SEO packages are published on the pricing page, with the inclusions for each tier. We list prices openly because a fair quote should never depend on how much you appear willing to pay. The full service is described on our SEO services page.
Questions people ask
Is SEO a one-off cost?
No. A one-off audit or technical fix is a project, but rankings need ongoing content, maintenance and authority work. Competitors keep publishing, so a site that stops moving slowly slides. Most businesses run SEO as a monthly retainer for at least six months.
Can I do SEO myself?
Partly, yes. Owners can tune a Google Business Profile, ask for reviews and write genuinely useful pages. The technical audit, keyword research and authority building usually need specialist tools and time that owners rarely have.
How long before SEO pays back?
Most SMEs see long-tail keywords move around month three and commercial keywords from month four to six. Payback depends on customer value. A business with RM20,000 orders needs far fewer SEO leads to break even than one selling RM200 services.
